You may feel very happy with the appearance of your teeth, particularly if you have invested heavily in cosmetic dentistry to improve your smile. However, it can be difficult to feel truly confident in yourself if your face looks older than you really are.
Fortunately, there are treatments that can complement your new smile by helping eliminate some of the signs of aging. We are delighted to be able to offer our patients the benefit of two of the most effective and transformative non-invasive solutions – dermal fillers and Botox. Both of these treatments can be administered in the comfort of our dental offices in Jupiter, FL.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are a very effective injectable treatment to reduce the effect of lines and wrinkles around the mouth and jaw. There are various types of dermal fillers available, and these vary depending on their main ingredient. The most common contain either collagen or hyaluronic acid, both of which are naturally-occurring substances. Once administered into the skin, they plump out the targeted area so that the overlying skin is stretched much tighter, causing it to become smoother and for lines and wrinkles to disappear. Dermal fillers also help to counteract sagging, since they replace the lost volume in the face, particularly in the cheeks, jowls, and jaw.
The effects of dermal fillers are virtually immediate, and in most cases, last for up to 12 months before further administration of your chosen filler is required to sustain your results. However, the exact length of time that the effect of your treatment will last will depend on a range of factors including where on your face the filler is used, the type of skin you have, and the type of dermal filler selected.
What is Botox?
Botox is the brand name of a very popular treatment that is often said to ‘freeze’ your face. This is because the base ingredient of Botox is botulinum – a neurotoxin that can paralyze the muscles and prevent them from contracting. In Botox treatment, the neurotoxin is injected directly into facial muscles, preventing them from moving and the overlying skin from contracting and forming lines and wrinkles. This means that the skin is smoother and looks more youthful. However, unlike dermal fillers, Botox doesn’t add volume to areas that have hollowed and sagged.
Botox is more commonly administered to the top half of the face and in particular the forehead, creases between the eyebrows and around the eyes. However, it can also be used to reduce muscle activity that causes dropping in the lower face. More recently, Botox is also being used in a treatment called the ‘lip flip’. This is where Botox is strategically injected into the muscles around the lip, causing the lip to ‘flip’ outwards and create the illusion of a plumper, fuller pout.
The results of Botox typically last up to 12 months before further doses of the neurotoxin are needed to sustain patient results.
Both dermal fillers and Botox are non-invasive, injectable procedures that can be carried out in the comfort of our offices within a lunch break. If you would like to enhance your smile further by opting for either of these treatments, please contact our offices today to schedule a consultation.
