Preventative Dentistry in Jupiter FL | Dr. Jay Ajmo at Jupiter Dentistry
Why wait for a cavity to spread or for gum disease to extend? Visiting the dentist can help you prevent dental problems that may end up costing you thousands of dollars down the road. You may be surprised at just how many issues routine dental checkups can help guard against, including bacterial buildup, TMJ, and soft tissue infections in the inner cheeks, throat, tongue, and the jaw.

There are other reasons to keep up to date with your oral health. Cosmetic and restorative treatments usually require you to be in good health, and if you are not then the procedures may require supplemental treatments, such as deep cleanings or tissue augmentations. By allowing us to help you avoid these issues in the first place, cosmetic and restorative work becomes easier, less intrusive, and more inexpensive.
Why do patients come to Jupiter Dentistry in Jupiter, FL? Dr. Ajmo is a master of the prestigious Rosenthal Institute and holds a mastership from the renown Misch International Implant Institute. He has a long history of excellence that is recognized by his peers and his patients alike.

Our facilities are state-of-the-art and designed around you, your comfort, and your wellbeing. Schedule your appointment with us today: 561-575-5599.

Professional Hygienic Cleanings & Dental Exam

The core of preventative dentistry are your routine dental visits, where our dental hygienist can clean your teeth, remove plaque and tartar, and restore the foundations of good oral health. We also check the health of your jaws and ensure there are no infections affecting your bone and soft tissues.

We recommend you schedule a dental checkup at least once every six months, although it may depend on your diet, your habits, and your genetics. It’s not uncommon for patients to visit us three or four times a year, if they experience frequent plaque buildup.

Oral Cancer Screening

Almost 50,000 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed each year in the United States. The five-year survival rate is only 57%. Why? Late diagnoses. Even if you do not share the habits that increase the risk of oral cancer, like smoking, screening for it is vital. It is absolutely paramount that we discover the symptoms early and treat them before they develop into cancer — when they are easiest to remove and treat.

There are factors that can increase the risk for oral cancer, including:

  • Tobacco use;
  • Heavy alcohol consumption;
  • Previous history of oral cancer;
  • Significant sun exposure.

There’s little reason not to screen for oral cancer. It can be performed during your routine dental check ups as part of your cleaning and exam.

Reviewing Previous Dental Work

Sometimes previous dental work may not be up to standard. Perhaps a metal amalgam was used to fill a cavity. Or perhaps a crown was not properly made and has cracked. We can replace them with superior alternatives that are better both for your health and for the aesthetics of your smile.

If you are unhappy with previous work done by another dentist, schedule an appointment with our Jupiter staff and we will be happy to review it and offer recommendations.

Fluoride Treatments & Sealants

Tooth decay and gum disease are infections that can be stopped early, but if left to spread can cause terrible damage to your smile. Routine checkups and good oral hygiene are good layers of defense against these types of infections, but there are additional steps you can take to protect your oral health, especially if for whatever reason you have a high risk of forming caries or attracting gum disease.

A professional fluoride treatment takes just a few minutes and consists of the application of a solution — typically a gel, foam, or varnish — that is applied with a cotton swab or a brush. This can be performed during your checkup, and the only downside is not eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after your appointment. The upside is repairing any microscopic damage before it worsens and requires restorative work.

Dental sealants also help protect against gum disease and cavities, and is most effective on younger children whose teeth are still growing and developing. Sealants are used to protect deep grooves or pitted areas that are likelier to trap food particles and develop an infection. The treatment is simple and quick, and it can last up to several years.
