What can a full mouth reconstruction do for me?

There are so many ways our dental health can be compromised. Tooth decay and gum disease are common infections, and if left untreated they can spread and cause a lot of damage. Gum disease, for example, can ultimately lead to tooth loss and bone recession, which in turn only increases the risk of infection. Over time, through disease, physical damage, or even genetics, our smile can start to wear down and it can get to the point where, although it can’t be restored on its own, it can certainly get worse.

A full mouth reconstruction seeks to completely reverse this process by solving any oral health problem and restoring your smile with a holistic combination of restorative dental procedures, such as dental implants, periodontal therapy, and other treatments.

What procedures can be combined in a full mouth reconstruction?

Your oral anatomy and whatever dental health problems you may suffer from are unique, and the full mouth reconstruction treatment will always be individualized to your needs. Therefore, for the most accurate idea of what your full mouth reconstruction treatment plan will look like we recommend that you come in for your comprehensive consultation with our dental team.

In general terms, we can combine procedures like dental implants, root canal and periodontal therapies, bone grafting, and gum tissue recontouring, among other eligible procedures. We do what it takes to reconstruct, rejuvenate, and restore your stunning, brilliant smile.

Is a full mouth reconstruction like a Smile Makeover?

They are very similar in how they combine treatments, but there are differences. A full mouth reconstruction focuses on your dental health by eliminating infections and replacing missing, or extensively damaged, teeth. A Smile Makeover is more cosmetic focused, using treatments like porcelain veneers and onlays. If your teeth are mostly healthy, but you would like to change their appearance, a Smile Makeover is a great option. For those of us looking to comprehensively restore our smile’s health, the full mouth reconstruction may be the better option.

As always, the most accurate assessment can only be made by a dentist in-office, after a comprehensive consultation where we can take CT scans to better understand your needs.

How long does the full mouth reconstruction procedure take?

The timeline of your procedure can depend on the treatments needed. Sometimes it can take several months to complete, sometimes it can take less. It’s very difficult to judge the length of the treatment process without having a precise idea of which procedures are right for your needs and your expectations.

With sedation dentistry, which is an effective and safe method of relaxing you during the procedure, we can combine multiple procedures without adding to your discomfort or stress. This is an extraordinary way to get more done in less visits to the dentist’s, accelerating your full mouth reconstruction.

Is a full mouth reconstruction painful?

You should experience only minimal discomfort, if you feel any discomfort at all. Our dental team includes a certified sedation dentist, allowing us to very accurately deliver the exact amount of sedative to keep you relaxed and calm, but still awake and conscious. By the end of the procedure, you should have very little recollection of it, making the experience all the more pleasurable.

How long will the results last?

If you follow our post-op instructions and maintain good dental hygiene, your full mouth reconstruction can last an entire lifetime.

The Procedure and Commonly Combined Treatments

A full mouth reconstruction starts with the first consultation. We assess your dental health, looking for infections, considering your bone density, and determining a recommended procedure. Our goal is to restore you to full oral health and to provide you with a smile that is exactly to your standards.

What treatments are best to combine depends entirely on the unique characteristics of your own case. I cannot use real patient names, but the Jack is the name of a patient who needed to replace almost a full-arch of missing or badly eroded teeth. He was also suffering from periodontal disease, and his gum lines had lost their old shape. We combined laser dentistry, with tooth extractions and dental implants, for an amazing 180 degree turn in his appearance. He looked ten years younger, happier, and, for the first time in a long time, excited to show off his smile.

Know that no matter your dental problems, we can help you. We will find the right treatment that fits your needs and budget.
