What is IV Sedation Dentistry?
Many of us suffer from dental anxiety or phobia. This is common, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about, and it’s something we can help remedy thanks to our skills and experience in this area. IV sedation is a way of delivering comfort and relaxation in a safe, effective, and precise way.
As the name suggests, IV sedation delivers a sedative to a vein, which allows the sedative to take effect much more quickly. The system is monitored by a computer, and using this data we can adjust the flow with great precision and accuracy. You will still be conscious and likely able to communicate with the dentist, you’ll feel relaxed and you’ll be able to sit through the procedure without having to worry or feel anxiety.
We recommend IV sedation if you suffer from dental anxiety, and it is especially recommended for treatments with more than one procedure. This way you can get through them on the same day and not have to schedule a second visit for the second part of the procedure. One of the benefits of IV sedation is that while you are awake during the procedure, slight amnesia is common and so you may not remember much of the details at all. Imagine being able to restore and rejuvenate your smile without having to worry or be anxious during the treatment? Imagine a new, stunning smile without the stressful memories of the procedure? IV sedation is an excellent option that allows you to do just that.
Other Types of Dental Sedation
If your anxiety is mild or moderate, we may recommend oral conscious sedation. Typically delivered in the form of a pill, the sedative will be administered by your dental team approximately 60 minutes prior to the start of the procedure.
Some patients will have trouble sleeping the night before. In these cases, our dental team may prescribe you an oral sedative to take that night so that you can enjoy a full night’s sleep.
Cosmetic Treatments That Smile Design Commonly Combines
Smile Design comprehensively improves the esthetics of your smile. We frequently combine treatments like dental crowns and porcelain veneers, or veneers and teeth whitening. Sometimes a restorative treatment, like a dental implant, will also be used to complement the cosmetic touch-ups.
